Pi Day Math Read Alouds + Blueberry Pie

It’s Pi Day! An excuse to talk about math, ratios and eat pie.

Here’s a pie recipe and math read alouds we’ll be watching on Youtube to celebrate!

This book list is a few we’ve already read before and some titles listed on Read Aloud Revival! Books about how numbers work for early to mid elementary kids ⬇️

Books about people who made a difference with math ⬇️

I hope you get a chance to enjoy these math titles along with your children over perhaps your favorite piece of pie! Here’s a easy recipe for the blueberry pie shown above 🥧

🫐 BLUEBERRY PIE 🫐

+ 2 pie crusts (I made a simple butter crust!)

+ 6 cups blueberries

+ 1/4 cup of flour

+ 1/2 cup of sugar

+ 2 tablespoons cornstarch

+ 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

+ 1 tbsp butter (cut into small cubes)

+ optional: egg wash, one egg beaten and spread over crust before baking

➡️ In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together expect the butter. Pour the mixture into pie pan with 1 crust in it. Then put the cubes of butter over the top. Cut the 2nd crust into strips to create a criss cross pattern or really whatever pattern you like! Apply egg wash.

➡️ Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes and then lower to 375 degrees (cover crust with crust cover or foil) and bake another 40 minutes (or until the internal temp of the pie reads around 200 degrees!)
